Introducing Super Alloy 1 Low-Temperature Solder

Super Alloy 1 is a low-temperature multi-metal and pot metal solder that bonds all white metals. It can also join dissimilar metals, making it an effective solder for aluminum to steel repairs.

Many solders require high heat, which can warp or damage the base metal, but Super Alloy 1 is a premium low-temperature solder that bonds at half the melting point of pot metal. Its unique honey flux turns root beer brown when the base metal has reached the 350°F working temperature, enabling quick and easy soldering repairs with little or no preheating. This all-position rod is ideal for repairing pot metal pitting, repairing missing pieces, and building up worn or broken pot metal parts.

Super Alloy 1 is effective with almost any heat source: butane, propane, soldering iron, or heat gun, with no welding expertise required. Its user-friendliness and versatility make it a popular choice among DIY enthusiasts and hobbyists who need to perform quick repairs or tackle small projects, especially on vehicles. Super Alloy 1 is the industry standard for classic car restoration, hot rod, and antique auto applications. This reliable, low-temperature solder has salvaged thousands of priceless classic car parts, from pitted pot metal grilles, to emblems, to damaged headlight trim. Restorers trust Super Alloy 1 to create durable repairs that they can then plate or paint to match the original finish, which preserves the value and integrity of these vintage pieces.

Shelf Life and Storage

Store in original packaging, away from extreme temperatures and humidity, to retain their effectiveness for years. Super Alloy 1 flux maintains its consistency and performance for two years when tightly-sealed in a cool, dry environment below 77°F (25°C).

How to Use Super Alloy 1

  1. Prepare Metal with sandpaper, sandblaster, Dremel, or wire brush. Remove all oxidation.
  2. Apply Flux directly to repair area. Dip the rod in the flux and apply directly to the parent metal.
  3. Heat Base Metal, Not the Rod. Keep the torch 4-6 inches away and move the flame continuously to avoid overheating the base metal.
  4. Watch the Flux. It bubbles and turns root beer brown at 350°F, indicating it’s time to apply the filler rod.
  5. Apply Rod. Drag the rod across the joint until it flows smoothly; remove heat immediately once it flows.
  6. Cool Naturally. Never cool with water.
  7. Remove Flux with warm water and a wire brush.

Tip: Bevel (“V” out) cracks or pits before soldering for maximum strength and a smoother finish. For larger pieces, lightly preheat the base metal to help flow evenly.

What Our Customers Say About Super Alloy 1

Just used the Super Alloy 1 on the window frame of my 59 convertible and am extremely pleased. This is the best and easiest product to use. It works just as easy as the video shows. I just want to say how well your Super Alloy 1 works. I am restoring a car that has a lot of pot metal parts that are hard to find and also expensive to replace if I could find them. I have admit that I was a little skeptical, but I was impressed by the videos that you have on your web page. I watched them a few times and I payed attention to the word root beer brown.

I ordered your Super Alloy 1. I was able to repair an emblem that had a plastic face on the front and I needed to replace the three pins in the back that had broken off. I placed the emblem on a wet rag to keep the front plastic from melting and I was able to weld on the three pins in the back with out any problem! I have say that I never thought that there would be any simple way for the DIY to repair pot metal. Thanks to you and your Super Alloy 1 you have saved me and I am sure many others a lot of time and MONEY! Thank you for such a great product! I am sold on it! — A Very Grateful DIY Don Reynolds

I just got my order of Super Alloy 1 and it took me about 5 minutes to fix the broken door handle of my 97 DeVille. Your product was incredibly easy to use even for someone with suspect welding skills! I cant wait for the next piece of pot metal to break. Thanks a million! — Arthur Bain

I have a nice, American-made, dresser that has plated pot-metal drawer pulls that break easily. We used to get replacements from the furniture manufacturer until they went out of business. I found Muggy Weld when searching for pot-metal repair and ordered some. It arrived today (already! you shipped it very quickly). Within 1/2 hour of receiving it, I filed the broken edges of the drawer pull, held it in a wood-jawed vise, applied flux, heated it, and applied the alloy. I let it cool down naturally. When I took it out of the vice, it holds firm. Success on the first try! I expected to try this several times before getting it right. Thanks! — Kerry Martin
