Weld Auto Body Panels Without Warpage

This clip shows a steel auto body panel being repaired with Super Alloy 1 and Heat Freeze Heat Paste (formerly Cool Blue). The perfect combination when you are close to heat sensitive parts or where warpage is a concern.

Super Alloy 1 rod and flux work synergistically–its honey flux turns root beer brown when the base metal has reached the 350°F working temperature, allowing for error-free application of the filler rod.  Super Alloy 1 is an all-position rod, so many repairs can be made without disassembly, saving both time and money.  This low-temperature solder bonds steel, pot metal, aluminum, copper, galvanized metal, pewter, brass, bronze, Zamak, zinc die-cast, zinc plated steel, lead, or monkey metal in any combination and can join even ferrous to non-ferrous metals, like aluminum to steel and can be applied with almost any torch:  propane, oxyacetylene, butane, oxy-MAPP, large soldering iron, heat gun etc.

For this repair, Heat Freeze Heat Paste has been applied to the parent metal, creating a heat barrier that eliminates warpage and limits heat to the repair area.  Notice the technique:  broadly heat the parent metal, apply the liquid flux, watch for the color change, then apply the rod.

Tips To Weld Auto Body Panels

  • Always use adequate Heat Freeze Heat Paste to ensure your part is fully protected
  • Always allow your part to air cool completely before removing the Heat Freeze Heat Paste, for your safety and the safety of your part
  • For best results, occasionally add water to Heat Freeze Heat Paste as necessary to keep moist
  • Allow adequate space between Heat Freeze Heat Paste and the area to be welded. Heat Freeze Heat Paste works so well it can absorb the heat from the area needing to be repaired
  • Wash hands after handling Heat Freeze Heat Paste or use gloves to apply
