What’s Included

One 1 oz. Container of SSF-6 Paste Flux Replacement

Shelf Life and Storage

Store the powder flux in a sealed container in a cool, dry environment. Keep the paste free from contamination such as dust or dirt, to maintain its quality and effectiveness. SSF-6 flux maintains its consistency and performance for two years when stored tightly-sealed in a cool, dry environment below 77°F (25°C)

How to Use SSF-6 Paste Flux Replacement

  1. Prepare the Metal: Clean the base metal thoroughly using a wire brush, Dremel tool, sandpaper, bead blaster etc. to remove oxidation.
  2. Apply the Flux: Spread a small amount of SSF-6 Paste Flux evenly over the joint area.
  3. Heat the Metal, Not the Rod: Use a soft, broad flame and move it evenly across the joint. Keep the torch about 4-6 inches from the surface to avoid overheating.
  4. Apply SSF-6 Silver Solder: Once the base metal reaches proper working temperature (around 1150°F), touch the rod to the joint and allow it to flow smoothly with the nelp of the paste flux.
  5. Cool Naturally: Let the part air-cool completely before cleaning off any remaining flux residue with warm water and a wire brush.

Common Applications

  • Bonding stainless steel, brass, copper, bronze, mild steel, carbon steel, chrome-moly, German steel, inconel, cupronickel, and cast steel individually or with other metals
  • Soldering HVAC and refrigeration lines, stainless steel tubing
  • Joining hard-to-reach plumbing applications
  • Brazing cast iron exhaust manifolds and other automotive parts
  • Creating jewelry and custom metal art
  • Repairing shotguns and general gunsmithing

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use SSF-6 Paste Flux Replacement with other solder rods?

SSF-6 Paste Flux is specially designed for use with SSF-6 Silver Solder Rods, for best results, though it may also work effectively with similarly high-quality silver brazing alloys.

  • What temperature should the base metal reach for proper flow?

The base metal should reach approximately 1150°F (621°C), to achieve proper solder flow and bonding.

  • Do I apply flux to both sides of the joint?

Yes. For maximum strength and flow, apply a light coat of flux to both sides of the joint before heating.

  • Can I reuse leftover flux?

Yes, as long as the flux remains clean and uncontaminated. Always tightly seal after use, to maintain consistency.

  • I thought SSF-6 rods were flux-coated, why do I need additional flux?

While SSF-6 is flux-coated, we offer additional flux for those who prefer a little extra.

SSF-6 Paste Flux Replacement provides the strong, reliable bonding power needed for stainless steel, steel, copper, brass and bronze applications.
