Silver soldering delicate parts is easy with SSQ-6 Silver Solder Paste.
This deep sea pole has a broken stainless steel eyelet. We make the repair by silver soldering with SSQ-6 and a propane torch, and use Heat Freeze Heat Paste as a jig to secure the stainless steel parts.
Note: When applying Heat Freeze, be sure to allow adequate space between the paste and the repair area. Heat Freeze Heat Paste absorbs heat up to 3000°F, which can sometimes results in too much heat absorption if placed improperly.
After positioning the stainless steel eyelets in the Heat Freeze, we applied a small amount of solder to the repair area. For additional precision, attach the syringe tip before soldering.
SSQ-6 is specially formulated with the flux incorporated into the filler material, so there’s no need to add additional flux when silver soldering. Simply apply the cadmium-free silver solder and gently heat until the solder flows around the entire repair area.
For your safety and the safety of your part, always air cool the part completely before removing the Heat Freeze Heat Paste. Excess SSQ-6 flux can be removed with warm water, and a wire brush if necessary.
SSQ-6 silver solder is perfect for precision applications as well as larger weld repairs. It is effective for silver soldering a number of metals including stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, steel and cast iron–individually or in any combination. We used a propane torch for this repair since little heat was required, but SSQ-6 flows just as effectively with any handheld torch.
TIPS:
- Make sure the entire part is covered in enough Heat Freeze Heat Paste
- To ensure longevity of the product, always keep Heat Freeze Heat Paste clean
- For best results, occasionally re-moisten Heat Freeze Heat Paste by adding water
- Use gloves to apply, or wash hands immediately after handling Heat Freeze
