How SSQ-6 Silver Solder Paste Helped a Fan Build a DL-44 Blaster

SSQ-6 Silver Solder Paste is a versatile soldering solution designed for a wide range of custom and precision soldering applications. This product is particularly effective when working on delicate components or areas where traditional solder rods cannot reach, making it ideal for jewelry repair, small metal assemblies, and other intricate projects.

A two-part video demonstration showcases the capabilities of SSQ-6:

  1. How to hide brazing joints on stainless steel parts

  2. A unique application by Muggy Weld customer Scott Juarez, who uses SSQ-6 to create custom Han Solo DL-44 blaster replicas.

SSQ-6 is a 1 oz syringe of our 56% silver solder, with the flux already incorporated in the paste.  This delivery method allows for precise application in tight or hard-to-reach areas and works especially well in combination with Heat Freeze Heat Paste.

How to Use SSQ-6 Silver Solder Paste

  1. Prepare the Syringe: Twist off the end cap, remove the Ziploc envelope from inside the syringe, and remove the applicator tip. Then twist the applicator tip onto the syringe, making it ready for use.
  2. Prepare the Metal Surfaces: Ensure all parent metals have been properly cleaned to remove oxidation, dirt, or oils, which ensures a strong, reliable bond.
  3. Apply the Paste: Place a few drops of SSQ-6 silver solder paste onto the joint or area to be bonded. Affix the components to the plate or fixture as needed.
  4. Heat the Joint: Using a Bernzomatic torch or other suitable heat source, broadly heat the parent metal. The solder and flux will melt and flow into the joint. When the parent metal reaches a dull red color, the solder has fully bonded.
  5. Cool and Clean: Allow the part to cool naturally. Then remove any remaining flux by rinsing with warm water and scrubbing gently with a wire brush. The joint is now complete.

SSQ-6 silver solder paste provides superior precision compared to standard silver solder rods, especially in areas rods cannot easily access. It allows for clean, strong bonds without excess solder, making it perfect for delicate repairs and detailed custom projects.

The second portion of the demonstration Scott Juarez, who shares his experience using SSQ-6 silver solder paste to build custom Han Solo DL-44 blaster replicas. His testimonial highlights the versatility, reliability, and ease of use of SSQ-6 for intricate custom metalwork.

Scott writes:

So far so good; I’ve done between 10-15 of these so far and haven’t had many issues. In fact, the only issues I had were where the threads of the studs would suck the solder up into the threaded spacer during the melt and reduce the solder on the surface bond, and broke loose during recoil. Easily fixed with a second application.

Since then, I haven’t had a failure, and my own gun has been about 1000 rounds through it.
