154 A Holley Street Dominator aluminum intake manifold was cracked from over tightening. To make this repair, we used Super Alloy 5 and an oxyacetylene torch, due to the large mass of aluminum.
To prepare the parent metal, we used a die grinder to open the crack, allowing for better penetration. We then preheated the manifold for about 3 minutes before adding the flux.
Initially, the rod balled up, so we backed the rod away and continued to preheat the engine part. Once we had achieved the correct temperature, the rod was painted on using direct heat from the torch.
