Brazing Aluminum A/C Lines with Weld Strength

Using Super Alloy 5 and a propane torch, 2 pieces of aluminum air conditioning tubing are joined, using a brazing technique.   Although the aluminum pieces are of differing thicknesses, Super Alloy 5 quickly and easily makes the repair .

  • To increase bonding strength, always add flux every time you add rod.
  • The flux is an absolute temperature guide, simply watch until it turns into a liquid and you’re ready to apply the rod.
  • Notice the technique: heat the base metal first, then the base metal and the rod.
  • Aluminum dissipates heat quickly, so it’s important to keep the flame broadly moving to ensure your base metal stays above 600 degrees.
