Aluminum Transmission Cooler Repair

This brand new Ford Tractor's transmission cooler needed tightening down. The customer accidently ripped the aluminum while tightening.

Because this is a newer vehicle, they don't make aftermarket replacement parts yet, which means this part has to be repaired, there is no option for replacement.

Close up view of the aluminum tear to be welded.

Mike Bonventre from Circle Radiator (Cape Coral, FL) uses an oxyacetylene torch and Super Alloy 5 to make the repair. (Propane or MAPP Gas can also be used)

After sanding the repair, the part is ready to be reinstalled--and is much stronger than the original valve.

Yet another radiator shop using Super Alloy 5 to fix the impossible. Thanks Mike!
TIPS
Apply 80% of the heat to the heavier fitting
To increase bonding strength, always add flux every time you add rod
Always keep your flux bottle as close as possible to the repair area, because every time you move your torch away, the aluminum drops approximately 100 degrees per second.
