Aluminum Boat Repair
Watch the Video Clips of this repair here and here
We've recently received several emails asking about aluminum boat repair. We featured one of the emails in a recent "Ask Mike" column, and decided to run a photo series on this project since it was such a popular request.

Mike was showing a demo at at Alternative Automotive and the owner Steve said "If this can fix my aluminum boat, I'll buy it."

This aluminum fishing boat was riddled with holes and in dire need of repair.

Corrosion was the major contributing factor in most of the holes in the aluminum.

This shot shows before & after making the weld. Mike made the repair to the far right, and after watching Mike's demonstration, Steve made the repairs in the middle.

Most aluminum welding rods melt at too high a temperature and cannot weld the thin aluminum without warpage. With a melting point of 600o, Super Alloy 5 was up to the challenge.

After sanding, notice the perfect color match with the aluminum. Now that Steve has Super Alloy 5, his boat will be back in the water in no time! Thanks Steve!
